Donna chats with Vincent Morfuni from the Australian Calabrese Cultural Association, about the event happening in Mildura
Show Notes

Vincent Morfuni is Chairman of the Australian Calabrese Cultural Association (ACCA).

Vincent was born in Calabria and arrived in Australia as a child.

In 2017 a group decided to found ACCA to advocate on behalf of the community, and to project a positive image of the Calabrese community.

ACCA is a not-for-profit association that is member based.

They held an international conference in Calabria in 2019 to establish cultural and commercial links between Calabria and Australia. The conference was highly successful and received media coverage from the Calabrian media.

They also planned another conference in 2020 but Covid restrictions prevented that going ahead. However, they now aim to hold another conference in 2023.

They have made submissions to the Aged Care inquiry; and established the ‘Calabrese of the year Award,’ and the program ‘Sono Calabrese’

They are also working with the University of Melbourne to establish an exchange scholarship program between the university of Calabria at Cosenza and the university of Melbourne.

The ACCA are now holding an event in Mildura to bestow the 2020 award that had to be postponed because of Covid.

They would like to have more members from Regional Victoria and ask anyone who is interested to contact them.
